We had planned to hold the party on August 3rd, due to an 11 year old campout that was supposed to take place on the 26th/27th of July, but received notice that they were switching the camp out to the 2nd/3rd of August. Aidan declined to wait two weeks to celebrate his birthday, so I scrambled to carryout a party plan on very short notice. Luckily, most of the boys he invited were able to come. Ken grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, we played water games (which quickly deteriorated into a water war...BOYS!), and had cake and ice cream. Aidan had a blast...Ken and I were very worn out afterward!
Aidan has had a birthday cake with m&m's on it every year since he was like 5. (I think the original m&m cake was Aunt Kayann's idea?)
Just a side view to show that Aidan has been wearing the camelback that arrived in the mail from Grandma and Grandpa Black on his birthday. He just wears it around all day long!
Lunch on the lawn
Everyone took a turn blowing out the birthday candles per a Black family tradition.
Aidan was grateful for all his neat gifts. He got Hero factory legos, Starwars legos, a Nerf dart gun, gift cards, and a new squirt gun!
Demonstrating Nerf gun capabilities on the sliding glass door.
Some things about the birthday boy:
*He still loves Legos!
*He is a reading machine. (At his new school they have mandatory reading time during the day...as if you had to force my kids!)
*He is a whiz at vocabulary.
*He says he hates math. (What kind of crazy talk is that?)
*He wants to swim everyday now that we have a pool in our neighborhood.
*He has the most gorgeous blue eyes and luxuriant eyelashes to frame them.
*He loves grapes, but only if they are green.
*He frequently tells his Mom that he loves her. (Bonus points for him!)
*I love that he says he wants to be a hero when he grows up.
*He refuses to wear jeans.
*He is a good singer...even if he is embarrassed to show it.
We love you bud!

My Aiden HATES wearing jeans too! He owns one pair that usually only make an appearance for family pictures. Silly boys! How fun that you actually have a lawn to eat lunch on. One day my yard will be more than rocks:)
