All Things Bright and Beautiful

Our little girl was baptized on March 27th. She looked beautiful in her Ann Hessing original. She posed for a couple of candids with her brother and sister. There were a couple of kinks in the evening. Mom and I were trying to finish up some last minute shopping for the big wedding. Thankfully, Ken’s Mom and Grams cut up the fruit and made the brownies for the after baptism refreshments. We tracked down some baptism clothes for Daddy at the last minute. Grandpa arranged for someone to fill the font, weeks in advance. Those who arrived to the baptism on time, this does not include the baptism girl or her family, found the building locked. Uncle Calvin came to the rescue with a church key. Low and behold, the font was empty. We quickly turned on the faucet. That was really the end to the drama. Lee and Gerry, our immensely talented nephews, serenaded us with a “Teach Me to Walk in the Light” duet. Grandma Black gave an excellent talk on baptism. All the cousins, well except for the three babies, sang “I Lived in Heaven.” Then the baptism was performed. The water wasn’t too cold. Kadie didn’t even flinch. They had only filled up the font enough for her to be immersed; I’m assuming that helped keep the temperature under control. After a quick wardrobe change, Daddy and Kadie rejoined the group so they could listen to Grandpa Hessing give a dynamite, last-minute talk (you’ll have to ask Ken about that one) on the gift of the Holy Ghost. Then our girl was given the gift of the Holy Ghost and then confirmed a member of the Church (separately and in that order. You’ll have to ask Ken about that one too). Of course there was much visiting and eating afterward. Then we headed home to put the kiddos to bed and begin mixing some reception punch. We’re so proud of our little girl for making this big decision!
